Great Bernera is a small but striking island in Loch Roag off the west coast of Lewis, known for its dramatic Atlantic‑shaped landscape, rich history, and strong community identity. Covering just over 21 km², it is connected to Lewis by a bridge yet it maintains a distinct island feel. Its coastline is dotted with white‑sand beaches such as Bosta, where an Iron Age settlement was uncovered, and its interior features low rocky hills, lochs, and crofting land that reflect centuries of habitation.
